Unexpected Ozempic Baby Pregnancies? How Birth Control Might Be Affected by GLP-1 Drugs
Dr. Ben Bikman discusses the phenomenon of “Ozempic babies,” where women using GLP-1 weight loss drugs like Ozempic and MoVI find their birth control pills ineffective, leading to unexpected pregnancies.
Perhaps contrary to popular belief that this is due to hormonal changes, Dr. Bikman suggests that because these drugs significantly slow down the intestines, impairing the absorption of oral contraceptives, they may not be as effective. He highlights the importance of being aware of this interaction, noting that the issue is not hormonal disruption but rather a digestive slowdown affecting medication absorption.

Ketones and Brain Health: New Study on Parkinson’s Disease, with Dr. Ben Bikman
Переглядів 6 тис.День тому
Dr. Bikman highlights a recent study on the benefits of a ketogenic diet for brain disorders, specifically Parkinson’s Disease. The study suggests that adhering to a ketogenic diet can slow the progression of Parkinson’s and even improve some symptoms. This is likely due to the protective effect of ketones on dopamine-producing neurons. Dr. Bikman emphasizes that the brain thrives on ketones, b...
Better Understanding LDL and VLDL with Dr. Ben Bikman
Переглядів 6 тис.День тому
In this short video, Dr. Bikman explains the role of cholesterol transporters in the blood, specifically focusing on LDL and VLDL. He clarifies that LDL is a transporter carrying cholesterol, triglycerides, and proteins, originating as VLDL from the liver. As VLDL moves through the blood, it becomes LDL. Contrary to common fears, Ben suggests that higher LDL with lower VLDL levels is associated...

Over 12 weeks, the Western diet rats consuming stevia gained the most weight, while those consuming allulose experienced significantly less weight gain, improved insulin sensitivity, better glucose tolerance, i...
Why Your Body Does Not Need Dietary Carbs: with Dr. Ben Bikman
Переглядів 8 тис.14 днів тому
Dr. Bikman explains a fundamental yet often misunderstood aspect of human nutrition: the concept of essential nutrients. He clarifies that while essential amino acids and fatty acids must be obtained through diet for health and survival, there are no essential carbohydrates. Despite the necessity of blood glucose for certain cells, like red blood cells, he emphasizes that the body does not requ...

He underscores the importance of LDL in preventing severe infections like sepsis, offering a fres...
Energy Toxicity and Insulin Resistance with Dr. Ben Bikman
Переглядів 31 тис.14 днів тому
In this episode of The Metabolic Classroom, Dr. Bikman, a biomedical scientist and professor of cell biology, delves into the concept of energy toxicity. He begins by explaining that energy toxicity attempts to explain why certain cells, particularly those capable of storing energy like muscle and liver cells, become insulin resistant. The primary idea is that when these cells accumulate excess...
Hunger Always Wins: The Flaw in “Eat Less, Exercise More” with Dr. Ben Bikman
Переглядів 4,1 тис.14 днів тому
Dr. Bikman draws a parallel between preparing for a buffet by eating less and exercising more to induce hunger and the conventional advice given for weight loss over the past decades. He argues that while this method might lead to short-term weight loss, it ultimately increases hunger, which is unsustainable and counterproductive. Instead, he emphasizes the importance of managing macronutrients...
Why MCT Oil Boosts Your Ketones: Dr. Bikman Explains
Переглядів 10 тис.14 днів тому
Insulin IQ community member, Pam asks why using MCT oil, which is not an exogenous ketone, still raises her ketone levels. Dr. Bikman explains that MCTs and shorter fats are absorbed directly into the bloodstream from the gut, bypassing the complex process longer fats undergo. These fats go straight to the liver, which must immediately burn them due to their short carbon chains, as cells cannot...

went to a fitness coach to get help in exercise and movement as I was ready to take myself up to the next level, the first thing he recommended was to up my carbs to 200g a day and lower my fats down to 10g a day, the complete opposite of what I have been doing and what is recommended. I immediate sent a message back asking if this is a joke. I'm still fighting to end my contract with them and they refuse. If I ate like that again I'll be in dire straights with my health - the exact opposite of where I want to be.

Western doctors knew of the effects of sugar on the liver and how to heal NAFLD since the early 1900's. There's no excuse for doctors nowadays to not know these studies and refuse to advice people how to actually heal the liver. I was told years ago to stop eating fat. Once I cotton on to the issues with sugar I stopped sugar mostly, however I didn't know how to heal the liver. Now I take choline, taurine and milk thistle to help and have fasting during the week and it's when I have fasted for most of the day that I feel the gallbladder squeezing and I know then I've got fat in my blood. I have started to lose cms off my waist and I hope this is a sign of fatty liver healing. I hope. My liver enzymes were high and my doctor only asked me if I drink and when I said no, she dropped the subject. I don't drink.

Thank you. Due to my hyperinsulinemia and warning that I am in pre-diabetes mode, I joined the keto diet 10 months ago. While my hyperinsulinemia is still not fully cured, I lost 25 pounds and reached my A1c of 5.2. Lots of ‘goodies‘ also happened (for example, no more need for blood pressure pills!). At age 85, I‘m also visiting a gym every second day. Life is great!

Can I ask a question please!!!! My tsh and free 3 and 4 are normal. I did a tpo test and it was 30, still normal but on the higer end. For anyone with hasimotos, what are your levels when you was diagnosed. I just hope im not headed in that direction because im on the high end if normal. I also cane across a doctor saying anything under 500 is low risk, anything above is elevated risk. But the cut off is 34 and im 30. Just kinda nervous. Anyone familiar with this

Please do you have a way to translate this to Spanish? My friend in Mexico was recently diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and when I tell him your advice he hears “high insulin” and rejects it bc he doesn’t have diabetes! Your other videos with Jesse Chappur talk about it I. Those terms as well so he rejects them out of hand. His problem started with gout and was treating it with low carb then keto and lost weight. Now he’s diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and so he’s like, well you’re not a doctor, and now he’s following their diet. He lost some weight but is eating more carbs like fruit and oatmeal. This weekend his foot swole up and he can’t admit it’s the glucose raising his insulin. But I don’t have the words or the clout to convince him. Please do these important videos in Spanish and make shorts to help others understand that the INSULIN is what matters and that metabolic syndrome is synonymous with insulin resistance. It needs to stick in their heads

    • @luisv007
      @luisv007 День тому

@@60PlusFitnessJourneywhat he said was lactate, not lactic acid. They are the same; lactate is lactic acid except for one proton. Basic chemistry taught in secondary school. What he spoke about was very short-sighted; about the role of carbs in human nutrition. Carb foods provide more than just carbs, you have vitamins, minerals and fibre - soluble, insoluble and resistant starch. Carnivore diet lacks carbs and fibre, and therefore changing the gut microbiome with greater risk of dietary diseases such as bowel cancer. The keto diet has limitations just like anything else. The metabolic pathways in the human body is centred around carbs, e.g. production of non-essential amino acids and the production and utilisation of fats.
